Prevention is the best defense against tooth and gum disease and other associated problems. Brushing and flossing every day is a great start, but it can’t replicate the deep cleaning capabilities of a routine dental cleaning.
Recommended every six months, these cleanings are performed by a hygienist who is trained to remove mineralized plaque that may develop even with the most carful brushing and flossing techniques.
How it's done
You can expect your dental cleaning to last between 30 minutes and an hour. Typically, one of our trained hygienists (Sheryl Fineman, Annkeka Jasmin, Keli Baker or Lorena Catano) will do the cleaning, and either Dr. Stan Eisenberg, Dr. Cindy Bogdanoff, Dr. Alexandra McTier or Dr. Blake Upshaw will come in for an exam at the end. Most people find that dental cleanings are painless, and do not cause any discomfort.
Dental cleanings include two important steps for keeping your teeth healthy. Step one is to remove the plaque and tartar from your tooth surfaces. This is done by hand or with electric scalers, depending on the preference of our hygienists. Sheryl and Tonya will also remove any plaque buildup on the gums.
The second step is finish removing any final plaque before polishing and buffing the teeth.
As previously stated, it’s highly recommended by Dr. Stan Eisenberg, Dr. Cindy Bogdanoff, and every dental association in the country that you should have your teeth professionally cleaned every six months. To make an appointment, call us at (252) 651-4419 or visit our appointment request page here.
